Our philosophy is that science is better when it's shared. This includes making tools, scripts, and study materials available where appropriate. Below, you can find links to resources our lab has developed, which we hope can be useful to you.

  • Programming for Psychologists: An Introduction with Tips and Tricks >>

Programming is increasingly becoming an indispensable part of the psychological scientist’s toolkit. This set of online resources introduces basic concepts and recommended practices in programming, using Matlab and its free open-source alternative Octave. Topics include programming and analyzing experiments; tips for writing elegant, readable code; and strategies and solutions for testing and debugging. Sample code for an experiment typical of those run in the Decision Neuroscience Lab is included.

  • Lovingkindness Induction >>

Our lab has developed a 7-minute guided lovingkindness manipulation (Hutcherson, Seppälä, & Gross, 2008), as well as a neutral control comparison. These resources are free for you to use, but please cite the following publication if you do so:

    Hutcherson, C.A., Seppälä, E.M., & Gross, J.J. (2008). Lovingkindness meditation increases social connectedness. Emotion, 8, 720-724.
